What is it about lovely spring- or summer-like weather that gives people the urge to clean house? I mean, there's a reason "spring cleaning" is a cliche -- it must be because a lot of people do it, choose to do a big cleaning of their living space at the onset of springtime.

I fell prey to this myself today -- not that I'm complaining. The place was getting really bad, I'd been thinking so for a while. I'm a pretty damn messy person, as anyone who knows me will attest, but I do have my limit. I neatened up the living room a bunch -- it's still messy by most people's standards but a lot better -- also vacuumed it, since I now have a vacuum cleaner thanks to mom (yay mom). I scrubbed the sinks and the tub and the toilet, cleared a whole bunch of stuff off the kitchen table and countertop so they might actually serve some useful purpose, at least for a couple days until I clutter them back up again. There's still plenty more cleaning that could be done, but it's a nice start. I feel good about it.

And the weather, of course, was great today; see my post yesterday about how much I love hot weather. :) Today, 90-plus degrees, sunny and gorgeous. I swear you could see the grass and flowers popping up before your very eyes. So what *is* it about the nice weather that makes us want to clean? Is it something about the bright spring sunshine -- makes the dust kittens and the dirt more evident? Or something psychological about all the flourishing greenery -- new growing stuff makes us want a new start in our living space? Or maybe it's just that the thought of having to dig up all our summer clothes and pack away our winter clothes makes us realize what a mess the place is.

(Not that I'm ready to pack up my winter clothes just yet. I know how Mother Nature is. I fully expect it to snow next week. I'm just sayin'.)
