reminiscing
Jun. 10th, 2005 10:33 pmApproximately this time two years ago, I was in my old apartment, on bedrest, bored silly. I was lying on the futon on the floor with my friend Mark, eating pizza and watching the Red Sox game on tv -- a game that my mom was actually attending, without me (on account of the bedrest thing), which is why Mark was there to babysit me and keep me horizontal.
Approximately this time on that night (10:15pm), I had what I thought might be another contraction, but I blew it off because I was on contraction-killing drugs. Or So I Thought! Heh. Little did I know at the time that I would be a mom in only a bit more than twelve hours. :)
In other news, today was indeed weird as I said it would be in my previous post. I got almost no work done before 12:30, and then we all went to a nearby restaurant/bar for the goodbye lunch for two departing coworkers, whom I'll call A and B. There were about 25-30 of us. The food was unmemorable (the restaurant is a seafood place and they don't really know how to make vegetarian food interesting) but the dessert was fabulous! -- a huge chocolate-chip cookie topped with hot fudge sauce and ice cream. *Drool*
During the meal, our boss circulated a piece of paper for people to write down "the most memorable things" about A and B. At the end of the meal, she read them out loud, causing much hilarity, and then A and B made brief speeches about how much they'll miss us, and then A said "The thing I'll remember most about B is that he plays his music too loud" (their offices were right next to each other) and B said, "The thing I'll remember most about A is that he complains too much about the loud music." Hee.
Then the boss said, "everyone who doesn't have any work to do can go home early," and we all laughed because, hello, who's going to say "oh, that's me, I have no work to do"? But everyone dispersed and I think about a third went back to work, a third went home, and a third went upstairs to the bar to drink. I wound up in the latter group, only because the person who had given me a ride was going. ;) So we ended up about 9 of us, including A and B, drinking (no alcohol for me) and chatting for a bit. Then we went back to the office, where the guys were going to play a last game of foosball, and I went to Isaac's daycare to do the cupcake thing.
Oddly enough, Isaac refused to eat his cupcake (he ate it later when it was just the two of us), but his daycare buddies were very enthusiastic about them. The older toddlers sang Happy Birthday and it was very cute.
Then I took Isaac back to the office (it was 3:30, no point leaving him there and coming back again) where Coworker B had remained waiting for me to come play a farewell game of Scrabble. (I don't know if I've mentioned recently, but we're Scrabbleholics at the office.) So we played a game, and it sucked, so then we played a variation game where each person only had three letters instead of the usual seven. It was fun and Isaac was amazingly well-behaved! He played with his toys and tossed a ball around the room and only tried to make off with our Scrabble tiles a couple of times. ;) It helps that my coworkers adore him and all want to help entertain him.
Then we dispersed and everyone went home including us.
Still not totally sure on the plans for tomorrow, but will probably be heading out to the cottage at some point. It's supposed to be soooooo hot, there's nowhere I want to be other than floating on the lake!
