Cupcake Calculus
Jun. 10th, 2005 10:37 amAs background, sometimes when I'm trying to "prepare" Isaac for daycare (especially on Mondays) I tell him "we're going to see Makena and Riley and Carrie and Elena" (some of his daycare buddies and teachers), and then I say "and who else?" and he tells me some of the other names. It's fun to make him think about it and remember the names of the other kids.
(Also, as I may have mentioned, he says "alla" as a sort of catch-all word for pronouns and prepositions and articles and some verbs. Like "Want it alla cracker!" or "Isaac-alla sit-alla chair" etc.)
So today we were driving in to daycare and I had told him that we were bringing cupcakes, about which he was very excited ;) and he kept saying, "Isaac-alla cupcake, mama-la cupcake!" (as in, "Isaac's going to have a cupcake, mama's going to have a cupcake"). I was explaining that we had brought enough for everyone; I said "we're going to have cupcakes with Makena and Riley and Carrie and Elena" so then he was all, "Makena-la cupcake, Riley-alla cupcake, Elena-la cupcake!" and I was like, "yes, and who else?" and he was all, "huh?" so I said, "and Emily's going to have a cupcake, and there's a cupcake for Jessica, and..." etc. trying to get him to name some of the other kids. So he was like, "Emily-alla cupcake?" and I said, "yes, we have cupcakes for all of your friends at daycare. Everyone's going to have a cupcake."
He paused and thought about that for a moment. It was clearly confusing him. He wasn't sure what I was trying to convey. So at last he announced, "Isaac-alla cupcake!!!"
When in doubt, stick with what you know. ;)
