OK, well yesterday didn't quite turn out as I had expected. In the afternoon I got all ready to go grocery shopping, collected all my coupons, made my list, put my purse over my shoulder, went to the door ... and suddenly decided/realized that I wasn't in the mood to shop, didn't have the energy. So I canned it. I didn't really desperately need anything, and the things I need/want that are on sale will still be on sale till tomorrow.

So instead I went out back and mowed the lawn. I finished most of it except a couple of "problem areas" -- one that was so full of sticks it needs to be cleared out first, and then the far back end of the yard, past the range of our extension cord. We bought a 100-foot cord when we bought the mower, and apparently 100 feet is exactly how far it is from the closest outlet to the first line of trees. Behind that, there's another patch of grass and then our apple tree. We're now thinking of leaving that patch of grass to go wild, and planting wildflowers in it, so we won't have to get another cord for the mower.

Anyway, so I mowed the rest of the lawn, and then I was totally sweaty and stinky, but it was time to pick up Isaac from gramma's place so I didn't shower. ;) I went and picked him up and we hung out a bit and then went home, and I took my shower after I put him to bed.

There's something growing in our yard that is almost certainly mint. It gives off a very strong minty smell when I mow. It also has little purple flowers. Is it actually mint, or something else in the mint family that might be totally poisonous? ;) In other words, is it safe to pick this stuff and cook with it, or no? What do you think?

I'm sad that the Sox are on the Left Coast this weekend, because it means all the games will be starting at like 10pm our time. Maybe I'll try TiVoing them, although I generally don't really care to watch a game whose outcome I already know. Ah well.

I don't think this morning's cup of caffeine worked. I'm having trouble keeping my eyes open.

Most mints do have purple flowers, and most plants in the mint family are safe, except for Pennyroyal. You might want to take some to a friend who is more of a gardener than you are and ask them. I could identify a bunch of mints by sight, so if you take a picture and post it, that might work too.

Does it look like this? It's a very common weed in the mint family and has a lot of flowers on it. Google says it's edible.

Yeah, that does look like it, I think. I'll have to go out tomorrow and have another look, and maybe take a picture or two. :)
