LJ has moods for "cranky" and "grumpy." Don't you think the difference between these is very, very subtle? How would you describe the distinction?

Ditto "gloomy" and "morose."

Ditty "aggravated," "irritated," and "annoyed."

Ditto "productive" and "accomplished."

What other LJ-moods do you think are redundant? And does this annoy, irritate, or aggravate you? or do I just need to get a life? ;)

Distinctions in my head

"Cranky" is more aggressive. "Cranky" picks fights; "grumpy" waits to be provoked before snapping.

"Morose" has shades of "melancholy" which gloomy lacks.

"Irritated" is more petty and petulant than "annoyed", which is in turn less frothing-at-the-mouth than "aggravated".

"Productive" is for when you're working; "accomplished" is for when you've finished.

I'm aggravated, irritated and annoyed by the fact that there is no "apprehensive" icon, and no perfect synonym.

And I'm mildly peeved by the fact that the GothGirl "curious" icon looks more like "suicidally baffled".

"Grumpy" is low-key and dour while "cranky" is sharper and pissy, generally a product of being tired or sick.

I agree with you on "aggravated," "irritated," and "annoyed."

But I can be "productive," as in "making progress" without actually feeling "accomplished." That's what I feel when it's finished and wrapped up.

The two LJ moods that elicit the most WTF? from me are "recumbent" (laying down is a mood?) and "exanimate," which is just a $5 word for "lazy."

(Keep in mind that I only answered this because I'm "bored" and "blah" not to mention "avoidant," but that one isn't official.)

But "exanimate" actually means dead. OK, I guess you could interpret it as lazy too, but most mood themes seem to interpret it as dead.

I agree with you about "recumbent," although in that sense, "working" isn't really a mood either....

I sort of look at it the other way: it's not like you have to worry about using up a resource, OTOH, you want there to be an icon for the mood you put down. So, if there was only an icon for "meloncholy", but you put down "morose", well, it would make you even MORE morose...

As long as "morose" and "meloncholy" have the same icon associated with them, redundancy has no effect...

Well sure, I mean clearly sometimes you feel cranky and not grumpy, even if the difference is hard to define, so there's value in having the semi-redundancy. But that doesn't preclude it being annoying or irritating. :)

You know what makes me crunpy? The fact that there are all these similar emotions listed, but a lot of the ones I would choose to use simly aren't there. Poo.

Out of curiosity, how far in the sentence did you get before you realized that the combination you originally wrote would end up as "crampy"?
