I sure am glad I signed up for my town's automated thingie that emails you when a snow emergency is declared. Otherwise how would I know that there's ANOTHER snow emergency starting tomorrow morning, and school is cancelled for tomorrow? Those lucky kids. Those poor parents. Three days in a row without school!

There's "only" another four inches of snow predicted, but considering what a mess things still are from the other day, another four could make it even messier. Man, things are ugly on the streets -- and even uglier in my mom's area, where the streets are narrower and no one has a yard/driveway in which to pile the snow. I really have to take some more pictures, because it's hard to even describe the mess.

And tomorrow's snow is supposed to hit right at rush hour. Joy!!!!

If there's a snow emergency, will they let you stay home from work? I'd think an emergency would warrant telling employees to stay home. My city is probably much less prepared for snow than yours, but when we had just an itty bitty snowstorm most places let their employees either stay home or leave early. If you have to go to work, will your employer let you leave early to beat the rush-hour snow? Or will so many other people try to leave early to beat the snow, it won't make any difference what time you leave? It sounds like you're in for a traffic headache either way.

A snow emergency basically just means that parking restrictions go into effect within the city. It means that you can't park in places that are marked "No parking during declared snow emergency" -- which in most cases is the even-numbered side of the streets. On my street you can't park on the even side at any time anyway, so it doesn't really affect me. But basically all the "snow emergency" declaration means is that the city can tow any cars that are improperly parked.

We've had a snow emergency in effect since Saturday night, and I still had to work today and yesterday. Since the town where I work isn't the town where I live, it doesn't really pertain.

I don't really understand the parking restrictions. Unless it's so snow plows can get through?
