Big thanks to everyone who replied to my vent yesterday. I really appreciate the support. Of course I do realize that Isaac's behavior and my reaction to / frustration with it are normal; sometimes that knowledge is helpful and reassuring, other times not so much.

Anyway, after I wrote that post I did give him a bath, which he quite enjoyed, and which wore him out nicely, so he went to sleep quite quickly afterward (albeit a bit later than usual) and slept through the night. And today we had a much better day. We got up a bit late, dawdled through the morning, eventually got dressed and went to grandma's. She had a couple of friends over and had made waffles, so we ate waffles and socialized, and then I snoozed briefly on the couch until it was time for grandma and friends to go to a movie. No sooner had they left than Isaac nursed to sleep, and took a good 2.5-hour nap, during which time I rested and wasted time on the computer and read the Sunday paper. Then Isaac woke up, grandma came back, I got my shower, we ate and played, and eventually came home and he went to bed again.

(Grandma's upstairs neighbor called during Isaac's nap to say that she has new kittens and we should come up and see them, but by the time he woke up she had gone out. :( So no cute kitty goodness for us today; sometime soon hopefully.)

Isaac's newest "tricks" are climbing up onto chairs; standing on the floor spinning around until he gets dizzy; and combining words to indicate possession, e.g. "mama shoes," "kitty bowl." His newest words are "wow," "fire truck," and "boots." I estimate that he's up to 70 or 75 words by now. And now that he knows how to say "song" he wants to be sung to all the time; must brush up on some lyrics. In his honor I have composed the following Bathtime Song:

If I had a baby
I'd wash him in the ba-ath-tub
I'd wash him in the bathtub
All over his body.
I'd wash his fingers
I'd wash his elbows
I'd wash his [insert other body parts ad libitum]
A-a-a-a-all over his body.

Well, I got a baby
And he's got some elbows.
And he's got some fingers
All over his hands.
He's got a belly
He's got [insert body parts ad libitum]
He's got [ditto]
A-a-a-a-all over his body.
(applause, cries of "Encore!" or to be more accurate, "More song!")
