merry frickin' whatever
Dec. 25th, 2004 11:47 amI've been trying to compose this entry for like two hours now. I keep getting interrupted -- one guess by whom. *g* And then I was halfway done and Isaac came along and banged on the keyboard and the whole entry disappeared. ARGH...
OK, let's try again.
I believe the first thing I said was something like: it's not that I'm a grinch, it's just that I don't give a shit. Christmas doesn't affect me so I'm mostly just annoyed that no one is online to entertain me. Even the Jews aren't online because it's Shabbat. Grump.
I never got that nap yesterday (see my last entry that ended with me supposedly going to nap because Isaac was napping). I lay down, but couldn't sleep. Stupid no-off-switch-having brain. I lay in bed for a while, did a crossword (the theme was puns about chocolate -- it's like it was written just for me!), then got up and puttered around. Eventually Isaac got up and ran rampant around the house. Then my mom showed up and took him out for a walk. Then Brian the upstairs neighbor came down to put something in my oven because his doesn't actually work. Then we went upstairs and Brian's mom showed up and we had dinner, which was great. The menu was basically as I posted the other day; the veggies were roasted asparagus, and yams with bananas(!). Every time I have asparagus at someone else's house I think, "I forgot how good this stuff is, I should buy some and learn how to cook it."
Then there was dessert, provided by my mom who got it at a bakery that Brian told her about. There was a thing called a lobster claw (because of the shape) which was basically pastry with cream filling. There were cannoli, which of course are also ... pastry with cream filling. And there was a rum log (uh, some sort of cake saturated with rum and slathered in whipped cream), and cheesecake which I don't think even got touched on account of all the other desserts. Yum! OMG, was I stuffed. *g*
Then I left early, because I have to be firm about bedtime (which is a whole other post and yes,
ww1614, I'll post about that here ... at some point), and later my mom brought my stuff down and said goodnight.
And now it's Christmas and I'm just trying to keep Isaac from trashing the place. And to locate the item of clothing that I so badly want him to wear to the dinner party later. Found it! Yay. Now to try once again to get Isaac to eat and sleep. Preferably in that order, but I'll take what I can get.
OK, let's try again.

Date: 2004-12-25 07:21 pm (UTC)As far as I know, my holiday will be mostly trying to keep the cats out of the stuff Santa brought, because the demon-child is at his step-grandma's and isn't around to open things.
Maybe also buying batteries.

Date: 2004-12-25 10:16 pm (UTC)Holidays? I once spent New Year's Eve through the New Year at the computer, chatting online, when I was at a party held at relatives' house.
Also, I <3 asparagus. You can boil it on the stove or microwave it with some water pretty quickly. The trick is to not overcook it, because that makes it all soggy and it loses it flavour, and not undercook it, because then it's also inedible. And don't cut off the stem: break it where it snaps naturally, in your hands, otherwise you'll get stuck with a stringy awful end that only cows or rabbits might enjoy munching on.
