Well, looks like I'll be missing the concert, or at least most of it. I didn't get Isaac down for his nap till 2:15. ARGH!!! He has really been fighting it lately and I don't know what to do. *sigh* Anyway, if he gets in the 2-3 hours that he needs, we'll miss the whole concert. Oh well, my child's well-being comes first and all that rot, right? I'll have other chances to hear and sing Messiah. Did I mention "sigh"?

Anyway, while I'm waiting for him to wake up, I was reading the totally yummy-sounding gingerbread recipe that skreeky posted, and it made me drool so much that I decided to add it to the repertoire for my cookie party. And that reminded me that I should invite people to my cookie party. ;) So, if you're in the Boston area, or will be on Jan. 2nd, you're invited. Unless I hate you. And if I hate you, why are you reading my journal? Go away! You suck!

Ahem, but anyway, as I was saying, the party will be January 2nd, in the afternoon-ish. The way it works is, I make a bunch of cookie dough ahead of time, and people come over to cut it out with cookie cutters, and decorate with sprinkles and such, and bake, and eat, and laugh. (I have many many cookie cutters, in many many different shapes. Including penises. And breasts, although you have to use your imagination.) And then people leave and I beg them to take cookies with them but they don't so I'm stuck with huge mounds of cookies everywhere. And my coworkers reap the benefits. ;) This year I'm planning to host it at my new home, assuming that our babysitter comes through on her offer to help me finish unpacking and get organized and clean the place up. Yay! I think it'll be super-fun! So if you're reading this and you want to come, please email me (mamajoan at gmail will work if you don't know my other edresses) and let me know you're coming and so forth.

Also, since I like a good six-degrees experiment as well as the next chick, go here and tell 'em I sent ya.

Hi. This is the other Isaac's mom. I was wondering what chorus you are a part of? I ask because my Dad is in a chorus that had a concert this afternoon, and they were singing the Messiah (among other things).

Hi! It is the Cambridge Community Chorus www.cambridgechorus.org (I was the webmaster up until a couple of months ago :) )
It would be funny if your dad is in my chorus! But I know there were several groups performing Messiah that day, so maybe not. What's your dad's name?

Yep, same chorus. Performed at Kresge on Sunday afternoon. My fathers's name is Burt Unger, and he's a tenor. I'll have to ask him if he knows you. My mom ended up doing ticket duty for the concert.

I'm also going to friend you. Your Isaac and my Hannah are only about a month apart I think. I like reading about what he's up/in to, if that's ok?

OMG, that is too funny! Every time I bring my Isaac to a rehearsal, your dad tells me about his grandson Isaac who is four. Small world indeed! In fact, the other day at our post-concert party, your mom (I guess it must have been) came over to tell me about "her" Isaac too. LOL.

Must we make penis and breast cookies at the party? I'll have Ilana (we decided not to have her birthday party that day) and she's already goofy enough about those body parts without encouragement.

Given that some people who have been coming to the cookie party for like eight years agitated at length for penis cookies, and we've so far only had them for one cookie party, yes, we must have them. If you want to bring Ilana for a limited period of time and tell everyone to lay off the body parts for that time window, we can try that, but I'm not going to hide them the whole time.

You're certainly entitled to have an adult party, where things happen that are inappropriate for kids, but a cookie-making party seems like it should be kid-friendly.

Anyhow, Denise has decided to hold Ilana's birthday party on that day, so I don't think we'll be coming.

You're right, and I'm sorry I didn't make it more clear that this wasn't meant as a kid-friendly activity. The cookie party is a long-standing tradition and has never included kids. (I suppose pretty soon I'll have to think about changing that, but not yet.)

Ilana would still be welcome, but she'd be the only kid so it's probably just as well you can't make it. I'm sorry to have to miss her party!
