Just as I was hitting the "update" button on my last entry, the fire alarm here at the office went off. Someone was making microwave popcorn and it was a defective bag -- the kitchen filled with smoke in seconds. We had to evacuate the building and wait for the fire department to go through and give the all-clear.

The kitchen is a big open area with offices right off it, including mine. The microwave in question is literally about thirty feet from my office door. It still smells horrible in here. It's giving me a headache, and it ain't helping my cough either. I think I'll be leaving work early.

sigh.

I can relate. A few years back, a co-worker put some popcorn in the microwave, and set it for some obscene amount of time like 6-7 minutes, then walked away.

It didn't catch on fire, and the fire alarms didn't go off (I don't know why!), but the stench was sickening! It wafted all through the office, and the microwave smelled for months! MONTHS!!!!

The defective bag was unlucky. Setting the cook time for way more then you need, and then leaving, is just moronic!
