in the dark
Oct. 15th, 2004 03:10 pmYesterday while I was working from home, the power went out around 4:30 for maybe ten seconds. Long enough to make my computer hiccup (lost an email I was writing, but no big deal) and upset the TiVo and make the alarm clock flash 12:00.
Then later, I was coming home after getting groceries and picking up Isaac at my mom's place. It was about 8:30 p.m. So I pull up into a parking space, look over at the house and think, "oh, the lights are on upstairs, that's good, I need to talk to them." I get out of the car, load myself down with baby and bags and groceries, cross the street, walk up the stairs ... thinking, "hmm, it's kind of dark, don't we have streetlights on this street?" and then "hmm, the house looks dark, didn't I leave any lights on when I left?" and then "wait, wasn't I just noticing how lit up it was a minute ago?" and then "wait, the whole damn street is dark."
Yep, another power outage. Ugh! So here I am with two large armfuls of bags and child, and barely enough light to see the keyhole. I had to knock and get the guys upstairs to help me get inside. Luckily I make a point of keeping my flashlight in a specific easily-reachable spot.
So I get all our stuff inside, and I'm thinking, maybe I'll unplug the TiVo so that it doesn't freak out when the power comes back on. I lean over to pull out the plug, and the power comes back.
Whee! Two power outages in one day. And three in the, what, 4.5 months since I moved in. Maybe I should get a generator or something. :P Maybe at least a UPS for the TiVo? Am I that obsessed? ;)
