Remember a couple weeks ago when I had tickets for a Red Sox game but ended up being unable to go because I couldn't find a babysitter? well, once again I have tickets, and once again I haven't been able to find a sitter yet. ugh! My regular sitter is going out of town, and my friend M agreed to sit but then we found out that the game is starting at 4pm, not 7pm like they usually do. And M has to work so she can't. The game is on Friday and it's the third game of the playoffs. I'm not missing a playoff game!!! I'll work something out if it kills me!

In a pinch, taking Isaac to the game is an option, although I think he'd get bored long before the game ended. He's so active these days, I can't see him sitting still for three whole hours, no matter how interesting the surroundings might be. We might be able to kill some time going up and down the stairs, but that isn't an optimal solution. *g* Gotta think about whom else I can call, who doesn't work a 9-to-5 job ... guess that lets out all of my coworkers, lol. Dammit! I gotta make me some new SAHM friends! lol.

At least I can comfort myself with the knowledge that this problem wouldn't have been solved by me starting to look for a sitter sooner. Even if I had gotten on it last week, instead of just this Saturday, it would have gone the same way, because they didn't announce the *time* of the game until last night.

A mom in my daughter's playgroup advertised for babysitters at her old college sorority and got several responses. She now has someone come every Tuesday morning and Thursday afternoon. Friday night might be a tough time to find someone at a college, but advertising at a local college/university would be a start. The only bad part of this is from today til Friday isn't really enough time to interview and really feel comfortable leaving them with your child, unless they have excellent references or know someone you know.

yeah, I have actually been working on finding someone from the nearby college (if looking up the phone number of the college's employment office counts as "working on"), but like you say, it's probably not going to happen soon enough for this Friday. And it's going to be a tough one since it's a holiday weekend. sigh.

Do you actually get Monday off? Because I haven't had a day off for Columbus Day since grade school.

Yep. It's a gov't holiday here; schools closed, no mail delivery, etc., and my office is closed. Actually, it surprised me when I joined this company, because my old company didn't get Columbus Day off, but we get it here, so, woohoo. :)

It's a government holiday here, too, but my office isn't closed and pretty much the only things that close are government offices, banks and schools. Retail establishments and corporations stay open. You would think that since the courts will be closed on Monday that a law firm could take the day off, but no. Frickin' lawyers! ;P So I don't really think of Columbus Day weekend as a holiday weekend because functionally, nothing is really any different except that there's no mail.

Maybe I'll see if I can schedule a day off anyway. I think I have a personal day stored up (no vacation time until November).
