Well, for the past couple of months I had been lamenting that almost every event I wanted to go to in September was on the 18th. It actually became like a little private joke with myself. "Oh, look, [person or organization] is having a [type of event]. I bet it's on September 18th! Ha ha ha!"
And I had finally, sadly, reluctantly, narrowed it down to just two events that I would actually attend. And as it turned out, I only attended one of 'em, and that only for about 10-15 minutes. Life is funny sometimes. Of course, mostly that was because of the torrential rain we were having (our little piece of Ivan). It was also partly because I found out at the last moment that
plaidder was going to be in town and could come over to visit on Saturday morning. So I spent the morning hanging out with her, which of course was fun (have I mentioned lately how much I adore
plaidder?), and she seemed to enjoy playing with Isaac, who is quite different from the last time she saw him almost a year ago. ;) We were sad that
retch couldn't make it (read: was asleep the whole time ;) ) but oh well, maybe next time.
And then he napped (edit: Isaac, that is. Not
retch.), and then it was 3:15 and the WGBH Ice Cream Fun-Fest was only till 5, so I threw us together and we jumped in the car and rushed over there. It had stopped (or at least slowed down) raining but was still very chilly. It was a pretty sad event compared to last year (when it was sunny and gorgeous) but we downed some free ice cream and then left. I didn't want to stay out too long as Isaac has a bit of a cold. He sure enjoyed the ice cream though. ;)
Then we got home and ate real food and I was feeling too antisocial to want to go to
sunspiral and
roozle's party. :( Ah well. So we just went over to grandma's and spent the night. On Sunday we mostly just hung out and took it easy, which was nice.
I did go briefly yesterday to look at a Subaru station wagon for sale at a local used-car dealership. I know I've said that I'm going to look at sedans, but I saw this car listed online and figured I'd check it out. It's a pretty nice car, a 1998 with power everything in a nice dark-green color, and they're asking $6000. I haven't decided whether I liked it well enough to take it to my mechanic. I did some more searching online today and there's a dealer right near my office that has a couple of used Honda Civics which I might go look at as well.
And may I just say that the whole naming of cars is sooooooooo damn confusing?! There isn't just a Honda Civic, there's a Civic DX and LE and EX and blah blah, and each manufacturer uses different letters, so one car's DX is the super-deluxe model whereas another car's DX is the basic no-frills version. Argh!!
Anyway, the $11,000 check from a relative that I'm counting on to buy this mythical car for me hasn't arrived yet, so I'm not getting TOO busy with the car-looking-for, but I do want to get moving on it. The weather is starting to get cooler and my car doesn't like the cold. I'd really like to get into a new car soon, long before any sorts of icky weather start to take place.
By the way, I did figure out why it was that so many events were on the 18th. It's because that was really the only Saturday in September that things could be held. The 4th was Labor Day weekend, the 25th will be Yom Kippur, and the 11th, well, the day will come when people will schedule their parties/yardsales/etc. on September 11th and not bat an eye, but that day has not yet arrived.
Coming Soon: an update on Isaac, about whom many exciting new things are to be said. :) In the meantime, have you checked out my post entitled "Where are my child's pants?!"?
