Things that are of the good...

* I got registered to vote in my new hometown tonight -- just in time for the deadline. I hadn't realized it was coming up so soon! Luckily the election office was open till 8pm specially tonight for people to register. I walked over after work and got there around 7:20. Whew.

* Some of the pictures we took this past weekend in Vermont came out really well. :) I'll try to post them soon. Also, my mom got some great shots of Isaac playing with her kitties. :)

* I kicked coworker butt at timed Scrabble. Twice. Go me!

* The Farscape movie trailer is out! This *is* of the good, but I can't actually watch the trailer because I still haven't watched the last few eps. *blush* I've been working on it though! Recently I watched two, or maybe three, so I only have two, or maybe three, left.

* Of the really, REALLY good is the chocolate and maple candy that I bought in Vermont. Also the maple cream (sort of a cross between maple syrup and jam -- you put it on a bagel, etc.) -- to die for! OMG! They should call it maple crack!

How long in advance do you have to register to vote down there? Can't you vote if you haven't registered in advance?? (Here anybody who's eligible to vote can get on the electoral list right up to the last minute on election day itself if they have ID and/or swear a oath that they are eligible, if I remember my deputy returning officer guidelines correctly.)

This was the deadline to register for the state primary, which will be on 14 Sept. The deadline to register for the general election on 2 Nov is 13 Oct. So in each case you have to register three weeks in advance. This varies slightly by state, within the range from about 10 to about 30 days.

And no, you can't vote if you haven't registered in advance (obviously, 'cause otherwise why would we worry about the deadline?). It's the whole paperwork/bureacracy thing, you know. We can't just go around letting people vote all willy-nilly!

Well in this country you have to enroll (and are fined if you don't!) but enrollment closes seven days after an election is announced - and you never know when one will be announced!
