Let me start off by saying that no one got hurt, but, long story short, last night Isaac got hold of a knife while I was out of the room. I accidentally left it where he could reach it, even though not five minutes earlier I was telling myself "don't forget to move that knife before you take him down out of the highchair." I left the room for a minute to check my email, and when I came back he was holding the knife by the blade!!!! Luckily he's at that stage where he likes to give things to people, so he held it out to me and I was able to take it away and everything was okay. Except for my heart condition.

I guess I'm glad that I stayed calm and didn't screech or anything that might have startled him and gotten him hurt -- but -- I LEFT A KNIFE WHERE MY BABY COULD REACH IT!!!!!! Worst mommy ever!!!!!!

:(

Edit: because I realize it isn't clear -- the above is what I would have written last night if I had been up to posting about it. I'm all better now though, so you don't have to reassure me. Although it's appreciated anyway. :)

No. Not worst ever. It's just hard to remember to adjust a bit once they get mobile, that's all.

I'm glad to hear that you only had near heart failure.

nah...no one got hurt. you learned your lesson. dont worry about it. I am sure that every kid on the planet gets into something that their parents thought was secure or are able to reach something that we werent supposed to reach. take a deep breath, let it go, and be more aware next time. he's fine and so are you.

Gah! We end up feeling like that just about every time our friends with young kids come over (Which pointy, poisonous, or breakable thing did we leave acessible this time?) but I can imagine how much worse you would feel about it being your own baby. Thank goodness he's fine, and remember it doesn't make you a bad mommy, just a distracted one.

We had this when Owen discovered he could reach kitchen drawers and open them. Doug spent that evening put on locks on *anything* that opened.

(We won't even mention the time Doug left his razor on the side of the Bath [despite me five minutes earlier asking him to put it out of reach] and we didn't realise until we stopped the blood on my dress. Talk about heart stopping.)
