Life of Isaac
Jul. 4th, 2004 10:29 amSo yesterday turned out to be pretty good. Had a little time to myself, then spent some time at a festival with my coworker and his wife and kids. Got a picture taken of me and Isaac sitting on a huge Harley-Davidson, for the price of one whopping dollar which goes to a "bikers against child abuse" charity. (Further motivation to get my scanner hooked up!) Then some naptime, then went off in search of cat food, wound up at the mall, did a quick turn through it (hadn't been malling in ages), dined on Indian food at the food court (naan for Isaac), then home and some Queer Eye and bed. Yay.
In Isaac news, he is officially crawling!! This is both "yay" and "yikes" news. *g* It's funny, I spent so long fretting that he wasn't crawling, and then I had basically concluded that he was going to skip crawling and go right to walking ... and when he did decide to crawl, it seemed to happen so fast. One minute he was still having trouble getting from sitting to all-fours, the next minute he could do it but would then immediately flop down on his tummy ... and all of a sudden, crawling!
It happened a little bit on Wednesday night, and then for real on Thursday when I took him to the office. Then at first he didn't really realize the wide variety of possibilities that this opens up for him, but by now he has, so he's all over everywhere. That's the "yikes" part, obviously. ;) Already on Friday night he helped himself to his first taste of cat food. ;) This morning I'm pretty sure he picked up a cat-hair dustbunny and put it in his mouth; he spent quite a while hacking and I thought he was going to barf up a hairball. LOL! It's bad enough when the cat does that!
Anyway, so this is exciting and alarming and will make my life a lot more interesting. ;) I gotta get a doorway-gate that will fit the french doors leading from the living room to the kitchen. I also gotta find bedrails that will fit my waterbed, because he's rolling a lot in his sleep now and I'm really worried that he's going to roll right out of bed.
He's also eating a lot more variety of stuff. I was so happy when he turned 1 because a lot of food restrictions are lifted, like honey (an ingredient in a lot of the natural snacks I buy) and dairy. Now I give him tastes of almost everything I eat, which can be really entertaining. ;) He loves to self-feed but hates to touch anything that's wet/squishy/slimy, like slices of peach or melon; but if you put them in his mouth he'll happily eat them. He loves to pick up blueberries and stuff them in his mouth. But his overall favorite thing is to chew on a hunk of bread. Not only does it taste good, it also feels good on his teething gums.
And every day Isaac is showing new signs of understanding his world. It's so fascinating to watch. I was amazed the other day when he seized my comb and put it up to his head and made combing gestures! And he's been doing a lot of little things like that lately. It's so cool. He's really becoming a little person.
Today, we absolutely must go over to my mom's place, do laundry, entertain mom's poor lonely kitties, and get the other bag of diapers that she has over there. And maybe we'll do some other stuff too, who knows? :)

Date: 2004-07-05 02:55 am (UTC)That reminds me so much of Ben. He would *never* touch a banana, so after I sliced them into small pieces, I would coat them with ground up graham crackers - and then he'd pick them up on his own.
Kids are strange.
So happy to see that he's off and crawling now! Life just got a lot more interesting.
