the weekend from heck

I've written lengthy descriptions of my weekend for like three email lists now and I'm sick of hearing about it. ;) So you get the WAAAY condensed version:

• Had Grandma's 90th birthday party. It went well except for the part where grandma is mostly gonzo from the Alzheimer's.
  
• Had (more casual) party for the sort-of-newlywed metafrantic (my brother) and sandykidd. It went well.
  
• Spent entire weekend schmoozing with various family members, many of the elderly persuasion. V. tiring.
  
• Attended hearing where the town board approved us to convert our new house to condos. Now on track for closing in 1 week 1 day.

Of course, the highlight of the weekend was when Isaac grabbed a cup full of hot tea and pulled it off the kitchen counter, spilling tea all over my leg. Wackiness, and 2nd-degree burns, ensued. On the plus side, Isaac's hand was only slightly singed. And eh, I didn't need those extra layers of skin anyway, right? The scar will make me look all cool and stuff. Yeah.

Now that all the family members -- including grandma -- have gone home, my mom is so in need of some quiet time. Poor mom. It was a really hard week for her. Three weeks of caring for grandma would have been stressful enough, but then she hosted two parties in two days! Oy! Anyway, I've already arranged for mom to have Thursday afternoon off, and hopefully she'll be able to use it for some actual relaxing.

And any evening now I'm going to start packing. Really, I swear. Augh!
