Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] abigailvr for the link to this story about a nursing mom who wouldn't take any crap from ANYONE. Personally I am a huge fan of breastfeeding in public (BFIP) and do it every chance I get. ;) I've never actually been confronted by anyone trying to get me to stop or whatever, so I don't know how I would react, but I like to think I would tell them to get bent. :P

I used to have a coworker who used to BFIP a lot, and she had many a rant on the subject. She'd usually drape a towel over her chest to avoid showing boobie, so she'd get:

"Oh, what a cute little baby! can I see?"
"He's eating."
"Why do you have his cute widdle face covered up?"
"He's eating."
"Let me see!" [person whips up towel, then faints in horror at the sight of a breast]

Most rants centered around, "Nobody would think twice if I was a topless dancer, but God forbid my breasts be performing their actual FUNCTION."

I think it's just fine if moms want to breast feed in public, but I don't find this the most compelling argument. After all, most topless dancers don't do their thing in the food court at the mall. ;-)

If you lived here you could also tell them in your sweet loveable way that attempting to as much as discourage someone from BFIP is an offence. Moreover, any business or organisation that attempts to restrict breastfeeding is guilty of a Federal offence under the Sexual Discrimination Act (1984). A judge bahiving like the one in the story would therefore be ipso facto guilty of judicial misconduct.
