Ugh, I keep meaning to update and not getting around to it.

To sum up recent developments: After looking at three daycare centers (and getting an info packet from a fourth but not visiting because it had no openings until March), I chose the one that is close to my office (also, alas, the most expensive one). Unfortunately, it does not have an opening until January. However, with help from my mom and friends *g*, I came to realize that two months isn't as long as I think (or feel) it is. So I told the center to reserve that slot for me, and set about looking for a solution for the interim.

I have found a babysitter/nanny named Anna. She is 22 (makes me feel old, groan) and babysits two days/week for a baby just a little bit older than Isaac. She also has previous daycare center experience. She came over Tuesday and spent the day caring for Isaac while I was working from home. Next Tuesday she's coming again, and I plan to leave her at my place with Isaac while I go to the office (trial run). Assuming that works out, I will probably end up hiring her for three days per week. One of the other two days will be me working from home, and the final day (Monday) will be covered by my mom, hopefully in cooperation with [livejournal.com profile] anotherjen. Once the daycare center's opening, uh, opens *g*, he'll go there three days a week instead of Anna.

It remains to be seen whether I'll have Anna care for him at my place or take him to hers. Both have pluses and minuses. But first I have to get past next week's "augh I'm leaving my baby alone in my apartment with a stranger" milestone, and then we'll see.

Meanwhile, next Thursday we leave for Arizona. But my mom will be leaving Saturday (day after tomorrow) and I'm slightly freaked about not having her around to help out for a whole five days. Sure, we'll have Anna on Tuesday, and my mom's friend Sally on Monday during chorus rehearsal (although Isaac screamed the whole time Sally was with him this past Monday, sigh), but it'll still be a lot. Plus the whole getting-to-airport thing and the whole flying-with-baby thing. (I know, I did it before, but he was simpler back then.) Anyway, I figure if I can survive the weekend and make it to Tuesday morning when Anna shows up, I'll be okay. I'm hoping to find some friends to hang out with for the weekend -- even if they're not friends who can actually take Isaac off my hands for significant amounts of time, it'll still be less stress, I think, than being alone with him the entire weekend plus Monday.

In cuter news, recently Isaac has really begun to distinguish me by face. Whenever someone else is holding him or he's in his bouncy chair or whatever, his eyes follow me around the room, and if I leave the room (or his line of sight) and come back, he gives a big happy smile. :) He is also, very slowly, starting to figure out that he can pick up toys. He still can't reach out and grab something held in front of him, but if you put a toy (or hand) on his chest/tummy, he can grab it with both hands and bring it to his mouth.

Oh, I guess I should do an update on the dairy situation (or lack thereof), but this post is getting long, so I'll do it later. For very, very generous definitions of later. ;)

Oh, where are you coming in at, airport-wise? Terminal 4, Sky Harbor, by chance?
