bittersweet
Oct. 2nd, 2003 11:44 amMy mom got some of the pictures of Isaac printed out, and sent them to some of our non-Internet-enabled friends and relatives (mostly elderly). My uncle reports that my grandma LOVES her picture of Isaac. She's been carrying it around, talking to it, smiling every time she looks at it.
It's kind of sad, because I had always hoped my grandma would hang around long enough for me to give her great-grandchildren ... and she did, physically, but not mentally. I'm sure she doesn't understand that the baby in the photo is her great-grandson; she just sees a cute baby. (The elderly always seem to love babies, even or especially once they've started degenerating mentally.) So I'm sad about it, but happy that she's getting pleasure from the photo anyway.
(A family friend remarked that Isaac "has that [our last name] look," and I think it's true. At various times I've seen my mom, my uncle, my grandfather, my brother, and even myself in his face. So there may be something about his face that says [our last name] that my grandma is responding to.)
