Not long after I posted that entry last night about Isaac trying to get his hands into his mouth, he finally got it! I was sitting on the couch, with him next to me in his Boppy, doing the arm-waving thing while I was reading email, and then I looked over and he had his fist in his mouth! He was sucking away with gusto (and still trying to get the other hand in there, waitaminnit, there's something in the way...). When he saw me looking, he took his hand away and gave me the biggest grin, all proud of himself, like, "Look what I can do mommy!" It was just soooo cute. After a moment or two of sucking he got this confused frown on his face, like, "why does this taste so icky?" I think he expected his hand to taste like boob, LOL!

But he was clearly very pleased with himself, sucking like crazy on his fist, and smiling like crazy at me every time I looked down at him. Aww, my talented little guy! Today sucking his hand, tomorrow driving a stick-shift! Snif, where does the time go? ;)

Anyway, he can get his right hand into his mouth now, but he's still working on the left. I wonder if this means he's going to be right-handed.

They say that handedness is noticeable in babies around that age. Whatever he grabs most with, or has the most range of motion with, apparently. My sister's six-month-old is a lefty: he grabs everything more strongly with that hand and he tends to whack people a lot harder with that hand, too. He doesn't much enjoy sticking his hands in his mouth, though - at least, not when I'm around. :)

Yeah. Well, Isaac can now get either hand in his mouth, but he definitely seems to prefer the right. Still, he hasn't really started grabbing stuff yet, so we'll see.

Yay, Isaac! I still remember how excited I was when Ilana seemed to be swatting her hanging toys intentionally, rather than just flailing randomly. It's miraculous how quickly they change.
