omg omg omg
Aug. 17th, 2008 10:43 amYou guys, I've been up since 4am barfing, which, you know, kind of sucks. I'm slowly starting to feel better although now I have a roaring headache and my stomach hurts in that "I am a muscle that got too much exercise today" kind of way. But I think I'm on the mend, fingers crossed.
But!! That's not why I'm posting! Because I extracted the hard drive from my old computer and hooked it up to my new computer, using this handy little thingamabob that I picked up yesterday at MicroCenter -- and it's WORKING!!!! My files! My beautiful files are all there! ZOMFG!
I know I haven't posted here much about my computer that died on Wednesday. I've been so busy that I barely had time to think about it, especially since I can bring my work laptop home (and thus not have to suffer internet withdrawals). But I was REALLY worried that the hard drive would be dead and all my beautiful files would be GONE.
Mind you, the absolute most important stuff (namely, the pix and videos of the kids, mostly) could be salvaged from elsewhere. I have a lot of camera cards that I haven't wiped yet, and most of my old pix are copied on my mom's computer and on some CDs that we have burned, not to mention some of them have been uploaded onto my website. It's not like everything would be gone -- although it would have been a pain in the ass to gather everything up and get it all together again. And I'm sure there's stuff on the old drive that I haven't even thought of yet, that I would miss.
But anyway, this thingie seems to be WORKING. I hooked everything up, the drive is spinning, the new computer is recognizing it as an external drive, and as I type this, all my beautiful files are copying onto the new machine's drive.
FUCKING WHEW.
note to self: devise a real backup plan, asap.
Um, and tune in later when I whine about Microsoft Vista. But right now I think I probably oughta go try to rehydrate. Did I mention about the hours of barfing? um?
