Boy, you know something is seriously wrong when tomorrow's weather forecast calls for a high temp of 91 and you think to yourself, "Oh good, it's going to cool down." O.O
Seriously everyone is talking about the weather. I know it's a conversational cliche, but these days it's the top thing on everyone's mind. Today I had conversations about it with three total strangers. It's wacky.
Isaac is sleeping at grandma's house tonight, the better to facilitate their usual Thursday adventures tomorrow; so it's just me and baby at home. It's a little weird, but good. Last night Ruthie and I slept in the air-conditioned living room, and I felt guilty about Isaac sweltering in his non-air-conditioned bedroom; but hey, I did offer him the opportunity to sleep in "the cool room" with us and he declined, so, whatever.
I'm totally, completely out of my mind with paranoid obsession about a power failure that could potentially ruin my stash of frozen breastmilk. I bought a freezer alarm -- thingie that makes a loud beeping noise if the freezer temp gets above 15F -- and shall perhaps install it tonight. Of course, I don't know how much good it'll do, since if we do lose power there's nothing I can do to save my stash! Except maybe dump it all into a cooler and rush it over to mom's place; but if it's 2a.m., that ain't so much gonna happen. Ah well. I shall just have to continue to fret.
On a cheerier note, a few of the good things about my new job:
* Learned that my new boss is a single mom with two adopted daughters from China.
* Learned that one of my two closest coworkers is a big Red Sox fan.
* My new boss arranged for a little private room for me to pump my breastmilk in. The room didn't have a lock on the door, so they had one installed for me, and they made up a "Do Not Disturb" sign.
* She also arranged for my work computer to be a laptop, and I got a spare network cable, so I can plug it in in the pumping room and work while pumping. And I can take the laptop home, to facilitate working from home on my Thursdays.
* They like me! They really like me! People keep saying "we're so glad you joined us!" and they're truly not just saying it. They MEAN it.
* The cafeteria is pretty good too.
yay!
And now, if you'll excuse me, the air-conditioned room is calling my name. whew!
