Well, it turns out that the guy who hit me is 85 and his wife died like four days ago :( so that sure explains at least part of why he seemed so "out of it." The state trooper called me back (just as I was getting Isaac to sleep last night, sigh) and gave me the guy's name and insurance info.

This morning I'm trying to make all the calls to get the car appraised and fixed, and find out about replacing the carseat. It sure is hard making all these phone calls with Isaac around, yelling random stuff into the phone *g* especially since so many of the insurance people talk so damn quietly! Speak up dammit! sigh.

I did get approved for a rental which is nice, although I'm hoping I won't have to use it and can use my mom's car instead. If my carseat needs to be replaced (they say it should be replaced after any accident, no matter how minor, because there could be damage that isn't visible) then it doesn't make much sense to transfer it from my car to a rental! ARGH. I really hope the other guy's insurance will pay for a new carseat. I am sad about it. I love my carseat. And it's one of the most expensive models, at $250. It was supposed to last me years and years! :(

I had the worst time getting to sleep last night too. :( It was raining and thunderstorming, which actually I usually find soothing, but last night I was just all wired. And then Isaac woke up early. *groan* So I foresee a nap in my near future.

I took the day off work. I can see I'm not going to get much done today. If I just get the car dealt with and nothing else, that'll be a victory.

The good news on my car is that the muffler is what's making the rattling noise. This is good because a) it means the car is okay to drive, at least around town, and not likely to explode, and b) it's something easy enough to fix. There's also more damage to the bumper than I had realized, but again, easy to fix, and not life-threatening.

our travels thus far today )

I can use my mom's car to get to work tomorrow, and as for next week while mine is being fixed, I'll either use mom's car or get a rental, which my insurance will cover. Not sure what will happen with the weekend (as we had been discussing going to the cottage again and how to schedule it all) but something will get worked out.

So that's a relief. Now I just have to deal with the carseat situation. I'm playing phone tag with the adjuster at the other guy's insurance company.

And now, since I took the whole day off work, I'm footloose and fancy-free. :) I think I'll mow the lawn and take a nap and a shower, probably not in that order. I may also require some ice cream.

Here I am at my mom's place, baking cupcakes. For Isaac's daycare tomorrow, you see, as Saturday is his birthday. Most of the parents usually bring in store-bought cakes or cupcakes, but I thought, "no, dammit, I'm making my kid his own cupcakes." So there!

So there are cupcakes in the oven and rice boiling on the stove to make my mom's famous rice, cheese, and spinach casserole. I started the day with car repairs, now I'm making cupcakes. Life is funny sometimes.
