Well, I guess it was bound to happen eventually.
I'm sitting at my computer, innocently reading my email, and Isaac comes in, with something in his hand that he wants to give me. Absent-mindedly, not really paying attention, I open my hand to receive it.
And find myself with a palmful of feline feces. A kitty turd.
EWWW!!!!
Of course I immediately rushed the thing to the trash and Isaac to the bathroom to thoroughly wash his hands and mine. While going "ew icky icky ew" the whole time, but not actually yelling at him, because hey, he just brought me something interesting. I should be grateful he brought it to me instead of just putting it right into his mouth. EWWWWW....
Now I don't know which is worse, the idea that he took it out of the litterbox, or that he found it elsewhere ... sigh.
Ah, parenthood.

Anyway --
When we moved into our new place, I left our sofa behind (put it out for trash at the old place) because it was crappy and I didn't want to bother. My mom had said she would give us her sofa from her parlor/guest room, because when it's opened out to a bed it doesn't fit well in the space where she has it. But when I measured the sofa and the space in my new living room, I decided it would be too big and take up too much room, so we scratched that idea. And then I kinda got used to the living room sans couch, so I started saying "heck, we don't need a couch anyway, we have chairs."
But the longer we live here and the more it starts feeling like a home instead of just a place where we live, the more the absence of a couch feels weird. I mean, you need a place to curl up and read a book, or snuggle with your kid, or watch TV, or lie down and rest, or whatever. Sure, we have a rocking chair and it's fairly comfortable, but it's no sofa.
So my mom said she'd buy us a sofa for my birthday. Yay! So today we went on our first fact-finding/sofa-looking-at mission. We went ALL over the greater Boston area, visited three stores (plus the ghosts of several other stores that had closed without our knowing about it), and sat on a whole lot of sofas. I saw a few that I did like, including some that are on the small side as sofas go -- which is good, because the space is small -- but that still are sleepers, and were around $700, which is a little more than my mom is hoping to spend, but still within reason.
One of the places we went to is an outlet where they get floor models and such for cheap, and they get new stuff in all the time, so we can go back there again (and again and...) if we don't find anything. I did write down a couple of models that I liked, and can go surfing the web to see if I can find them somewhere cheaper than the stores we visited, and we'll go from there.
Anyway, it was kinda fun (and Isaac was very good about all the running around and ins and outs!), and maybe pretty soon we'll have a couch. Yay. :)
Getting a sofa for my birthday. Man, if that's not a sign that You Are A Grownup Now, I don't know what is.
