lost and found
Dec. 22nd, 2003 12:03 pmI had a very eventful weekend, but before I get to that post, an update on two Lost & Found stories.
My cellphone charger, which I wrote about on Saturday, did eventually turn up. It was at my mom's place. Unfortunately, when my mom called to tell me that she had found it, I was out ... buying a replacement charger. D'oh. Well, I'm going to keep them both anyway. The new one is a car charger, which will be convenient to have anyway, and it only cost me $12 so whatever.
On Friday as I was leaving work, I found a glasses case containing two pairs of glasses on the ground next to my car. It was late and I was rushing to get Isaac from daycare so I just took the glasses home with me. Then I spent all weekend fretting about it. Should I have left them there in case the owner came back to look? Should I have gone back inside and tried to find someone from building management to give them to? What if the owner was going on vacation and not returning till after Christmas? What if she went out over the weekend and spent a lot of money on unnecessary new pairs of glasses? Etc. ... I tried to send an all-hands email to my company, on the off-chance that the glasses's owner a) worked for my company rather than another company in our building and b) would check email over the weekend, but I couldn't connect to the office server all weekend.
So first thing today when I got to the office I sent out the all-hands email, and it turns out that the owner was our office manager. She *did* go out this weekend and buy new glasses, which makes me feel bad, but she wasn't upset; she said she's glad to have a backup pair and was very grateful to have them back. She said it wasn't the first time this has happened because the glasses case is too big and her purse too small, so sometimes when she pushes the case into her purse it doesn't go all the way in.
Anyway, all's well that ends well. Things lost are found again, and not too terribly much money was spent on replacements. Whew.
