bad mommy, no biscuit
Dec. 3rd, 2003 12:10 pmI had a big "bad mommy" moment last night. :( First I was sitting on the couch reading my email with Isaac on my lap, and I looked down and discovered that he was bleeding on the bridge of his nose. He must have scratched it with his fingers. It was just a teeny scratch and just a teeny bit of blood, but I still felt guilty. ;)
But then, while I was getting ready for bed, I decided to clip his fingernails to prevent this happening again -- and I nicked not one but TWO of his poor little fingers! :( I used the baby nail scissors, which I don't usually do; usually I bite his nails, which I prefer because it gives me more control and feels safer. Well, now I know that it IS safer! I didn't even realize that I had cut him; he didn't scream with pain or anything. He fussed a bit, but he was already fussing because he was tired, so I didn't think anything of it. And then we got into bed and I noticed that the burp-cloth he was holding had bloody spots on it, but his nose scratch had already clotted up, so that's when I noticed that his left thumb and finger were all bloody around the fingernails. :(
Well, it obviously wasn't bothering him, but I still felt terrible. :( I had to hold his fingers still so that the little wounds could clot up, because he kept grabbing things and rubbing his fingers against things and causing the blood to start coming again. He got some blood on the front of his sleeper, but since the sleeper is dark blue it just looks like random staining, not obviously bloodstains at all, or at least so I'm telling myself.
Great start to our second day of daycare, eh? I show up with a baby covered in blood ... sigh. As with so many of these things, of course, Isaac was fine and the only real damage done was to my self-confidence. :P
Anyway, add in the huge bruise on my leg from walking into an open cabinet door (my cat is not considerate enough to close the cabinets after he's done hanging out in them) and it was an injury-filled evening all around. Ow!
