shirking

So I've been lax about finishing the transcript of last week's Buffy episode. My many fans at the Psyche transcript site will just have to wait, I guess. I finished about 3/4 of the first run-through, but it still needs the rest and then the second go. And what with new episode of Buffy and Slashville and "24" tomorrow, it might not get done till Wednesday... or Thursday.... Guess I just wasn't motivated.

I did, however, finish the first run-through on my taxes - both federal and state. I'm getting back about $350 in total. :-) Alas, I can't actually file until I get the form from my other student loan... *grumble*

I dreamt that my mom and I were hanging out with her friend Marjorie (mother of one of my brother's friends). She was very depressed for some reason and we were trying to cheer her up. We were sitting in a car parked on the edge of a small lake.

Then I think we all three went to sleep in the car, and some other dream stuff happened, and then I was sleeping (dream-sleeping) and my mom knocked on the car window to wake me up and say, "where's Marjorie?" She had disappeared, so we went looking for her. My mom pulled a long stick out of the lake and was using it to poke around in the water. Then I saw a foot in a bright red shoe poking out of the water, and I was yelling to my mom, "a foot! a foot!" and she used the stick to try and grab it, and then a hand came out and we grabbed it and pulled the person out of the water. But it wasn't Marjorie, it was a drag queen in a skirt-suit that had a nice conservative cut but was bright red.

But then I woke up, never having found out what happened to Marjorie or why the drag queen had tried to drown herself.

haiku

This time last year I was really into haiku. The obsession passed, mostly. I said mostly. The SAiku page isn't entirely my fault, even if it is hosted on my domain. ;-) (And it probably won't make much sense unless you're familiar with The Sith Academy, which REALLY isn't my fault.)

Here's some haiku about the writer's block that has been plaguing me:

Blank screen mocking me
The pain of literary
constipation stings.

All words in my head
perhaps used up already,
wasted on "Xena."

Writing fanfiction
Instant gratification
Teaches bad habits.

I was thinking about "Buffy" being set in California and how I'm not entirely sure where in California Sunnydale is supposed to be, but I suspect it's southern because the weather is always the same, except when they need a conveniently timed storm. ;-)

Anyway, that got me to thinking that it's also awfully convenient for Buffy. I mean, they set the show in California for a reason, right? But what about all those other Slayers who lived and worked in places where they actually *do* have weather? Can you picture trying to slay a bunch of vampires while wrapped up in heavy boots, an overcoat, hat, scarf, mittens? Or in thigh-deep snow? LOL.

OTOH, take it to the other extreme and that's why you have Faith slaying a busload-full of vampires in the nude. Woohoo! Let's move all Slayers to super-hot climates!

Of course, the real reason is probably just that Slayers, like vampires, don't mind the cold. But that's so darn boring. ;-) So now I may have to write a fanfic about other Slayers operating in weathery places. Like, I dunno, North Dakota. Or something. Or maybe I'll just sit and think about it and laugh quietly to myself.

You know, a really bad headache can completely ... okay, almost completely ruin one's enjoyment of a new Buffy and a new Smallville episode. *pout*

And you know what else really doesn't help with the whole headache thing, is a faulty lightbulb that just Will Not Stop Flickering. Owww.

I believe the time has come for some Tylenol.
