As of today (going by the "weeks since last period" method), I am "officially" halfway through my pregnancy. :) 20 weeks down, only 20 to go! Heh.

To celebrate, chickpea kicked me a whole bunch. I was glad, because he's been pretty quiet the last few days and I couldn't help worrying even though I know it's pretty normal at this point.

In unrelated milestone-like news, today mom and I watched our first TV Red Sox game of the season! OK, spring training, but still! I was very excited. :) Almost makes one feel like it really is spring, despite what one might see to the contrary upon looking out the window. ;) Have I mentioned recently that we have tickets to Opening Day??? *bounces around the room* Woohoo!

(Engaged in some complex mathematics today with mom, figuring out how much we owed each other for the various activities/events that we have done or are doing together. Concerts, baseball games, shopping, etc. -- it was pretty confusing. I ended up owing her $65. And that's only counting three of the seven baseball games; I couldn't decide whether I want to go with her to the Sox-Yankees game in May, because the tickets are Standing Room Only. I'm pretty sure I won't be wanting to stand for an entire ballgame at that point. Mom's all, "oh, we'll find somewhere to sit," but I can't seem to share her confidence. So I'm waffling.)

And in sucky undesirable-milestone news, this morning (okay, afternoon, I slept till noon-thirty, so sue me) I got my very first leg cramp. :P It sucked. Mom said it was probably because I stopped taking my calcium supplement (which I only did because I ran out and hadn't gotten to Bread & Circus to restock). My books said the same thing, so I rolled my eyes and went to buy another bottle. I didn't think it could have such a big effect after only a couple weeks, but apparently baby sucks up a lot of calcium. My midwife made it sound like it didn't matter whether or not I continued taking the calcium supplement, so I guess I didn't think it was that crucial. I thought I got enough calcium from my diet! Well, live and learn. :)

On this day twenty-nine years ago my mom was tearing her hair out and telling her belly, "Come on baby, get the hell out of there already! You're a week late!" But alas, I was not yet ready and would make her wait two whole more weeks. ;)

Sox fan, eh? Hmmm. *g*

Okay, maybe you can explain something about Boston baseball...

So I was up in Boston a couple of years ago when the Yankees were playing the Red Sox at home, and I told my friend that we *had* to go. We ditched the guys we were staying with (as D said: "Sweetheart, you *know* we're both walking, talking gay cliches; we're not allowed to like sports") and bought tickets from some scalpers outside. Then we crept into the Stadium (our first ever visit to Fenway!), thinking we'd have to hide our allegiance from the crowd...only to find that at least fifty percent of the crowd were Yankee fans.

I was so confused.

OK, so what was the question? ;)

No, seriously, it's pretty simple. NYC and Boston are close enough, and the rivalry between our two teams is strong enough, that it's worthwhile for dedicated fans to make the trip. I mean, you'll see a large contingent of Sox fans at Yankee Stadium any time the Sox are playing there; it's reciprocal. Really, it only takes four hours to drive from here to there (three, if you drive like my mom ;) ), and us diehard fans don't consider that too long a drive. I'd do it myself sometime if I could get Yankee Stadium tix without breaking the bank.

Sox fans also drive (or fly, or whatever) to Montreal, Philly, even Baltimore and Cleveland to see the Sox play in those cities. I'm guessing that diehard Yankees fans will similarly follow their team to different cities if they can get the time, afford the tickets, and find somewhere to stay (or someone else to share the driving so they can sleep in the car). That's what being a fan is all about. :)

(Damn, I used to have a Red Sox lj-icon. I think [livejournal.com profile] blunaris made it for me. Now where the heck did I put it?)

No, no...I *get* the obsessive fan thing (I've been to Yankees games at at least 11 different ballparks...it could have been twelve, but Becky pretty much refused to go see a White Sox game with me *g*). I think what I didn't *quite* get is you guys actually allowing Yankee fans to, like, cheer and stuff at your park.

You guys must just be a whole lot nicer than us *g*

Ohhh. Well, things can get pretty rowdy in the bleachers, and everywhere actually, but we don't tend to get as violent, I guess. I mean, I don't know what it's like at Yankee Stadium, but at Fenway, security is pretty vigilant and will usually step in to remove someone from the park before actual fisticuffs occur. ;)
