Jan. 31st, 2003 01:18 pmThe Friday Five:
1. As a child, who was your favorite superhero/heroine? Why?
I was into Wonder Woman (the Lynda Carter version). I don't know why, probably because she was a chick who kicked butt. I also liked Mighty Mouse.
2. What was one thing you always wanted as a child but never got?
A Barbie. But I rant about that a lot so I'll spare you. ;)
3. What's the furthest from home you've been?
Tokyo.
4. What's one thing you've always wanted to learn but haven't yet?
I've tried to learn sign language several times, mostly because I'm partially deaf and (as a teenager) went through a period of being paranoid that I was going to go completely deaf. But that hasn't happened so I've stopped worrying about it. I still think it would be neat to learn sign language though. Or how to speak more than just rudimentary French. Oh, and how to change the oil on my car. The local community colleges always run their auto-maintenance courses during semesters when I'm too busy to take them. :(
5. What are your plans for the weekend?
Well, I *plan* to try to do some maternity-clothes shopping, but in reality I'll probably sleep late and watch a lot of TV. And work on my Japan photos. I can't believe how many I still have to resize, crop, upload, and all that.
Also:
1. How often do you read your friends page?
Many times a day, during the week. On the weekends, I often don't get a chance to read it at all.
2. Does it annoy you when people post too often?
Depends on what kind of posts they are. If it's "I wonder what I should have for lunch" followed five minutes later by "I know! Mac 'n' cheese!" followed five minutes by "Darn. Got no cheese." followed five minutes later by "Gave up and just had pb&j" then yeah, it gets annoying. But if the posts have actual substance, then no, it doesn't bother me.
3. How often is "too often"?
See above.
4. Do you worry when particular friends don't post often enough?
If it's a close friend, and they post regularly and then stop without warning, I might wonder.
5. Do you read every word of every post on your friends page?
No, I skim a lot, because I have a lot of communities on there.
6. Do you religiously check what's behind any lj-cuts?
Nah. Only if it seems interesting and/or if I'm bored.
7. Do you use a reading filter?
Yes. I filter out a couple of people who do like I said above with the mac 'n cheese example. I'm sorry, but it's gotta be done.
8. What type of entry do you most like to read?
I dunno. It depends on my mood. I like long thoughtful treatises on the nature of life and writing and such, but only if I have the time and am in the mood to read them. I like kitty pictures and other cute stuff. I like plain ole silliness. I like "what I did last weekend" recaps. I like episode recaps, but only if it's a show I watch and an episode I saw.
9. What type of entry makes you grind your teeth?
Really long entries that should have been lj-cut. Entries with lots of spelling errors or h4x0r sp33k. Pompous, pretentious, or otherwise self-serving entries, especially if they're fandom-related.
10. What type of entry sends you to sleep?
Long posts about shows I don't watch or people I don't know. Posts that rehash the same stuff that person is *always* posting about, without saying anything new.
11. What type of entry would prompt you to defriend someone?
Ehh, I dunno. It would have to be really offensive, or say nasty things about me or someone I like a lot.
TGIF already. Whew. I can't wait to sleep in tomorrow morning. This morning was unpleasant, but to say more would be TMI of the icky sort so I'll spare you. On the bright side, a coworker brought me some maternity clothes from his wife, and my chiropractor visit went well, and it's payday, and it's a balmy 35F outside. These things are all of the good. Well, actually, that last one is more of the sarcastic, but it *is* nice to only have to wrap my scarf around my neck once instead of thrice. ;)
