random ramble
Dec. 30th, 2002 04:54 pmI see that some new people have friended me. I don't know why they'd want to do that *g* but, hi new people! I imagine I'm pretty boring lately. Alas.
I'm sorry to report that despite feeling MUCH better on Saturday and Sunday, I feel worse again today. Actually I mostly feel okay except that my throat has one of those annoying tickles -- where you can cough and cough but it doesn't go away -- and I sound stuffed-up. I don't feel stuffy, I just sound it. Whatever.
I have a bunch of topics I want to type about (some friends-only, some not) but none will coalesce right now, so instead, in a lame attempt to organize at least some of my thoughts, here is a list of lists.
Things I have not yet watched so can't comment on, from while I was away:
* new Buffy episode from two weeks ago
* new Firefly episode from two-plus weeks ago
* Firefly pilot
* SNL with Al Gore
Things I have watched but have nothing really to say about:
* new John Doe episode from two-plus weeks ago
* new West Wing episode from two weeks ago
* about a zillion That 70s Show episodes from syndication (my new syndication obsession now that I have seen every episode of NewsRadio, many twice).
Major genre movies I have not yet seen and thus can't comment on:
* Harry Potter 2
* LOTR 2
* ST: Nemesis
* Die Another Day (okay, not quite genre but I really wanted to see it)
Books I have read:
* Reread The Warrior's Apprentice and Ethan of Athos by Lois Bujold as part of my new project to reread her entire opus in quasi-chronological order
* Reread The Ogre Downstairs by Diana Wynne Jones and looked at my shelf and wondered where all the rest of my DWJ books have gotten to (*looks suspiciously at Jessie*)
* Almost finished with Blue Moon Rising by Simon Green, which started off great and then took a turn for the not-so-great which is why it's taking me so long to finish
* Reread Maskerade by Pratchett in a couple of hours while being ill on Saturday
Books I haven't been able to finish reading despite lots of trying:
* A Fire Upon The Deep by Vernor Vinge
* The Female Man by Joanna Russ
In other news, I'm annoyed because I just noticed that one of the souvenirs I bought in Hawaii says on the bottom, "made in Mexico." I thought it was authentic Hawaiian craftspersonship. Drat! :P It's still cute though, so I still have it on my desk. Nyah.
I've been doing some introspection, and although I don't usually do new years' resolutions, I'm going to do one this year. I resolve to cultivate healthier and better-adjusted interpersonal relations with the people with whom I have interpersonal relations. Also, to spend more time with people with whom I can have real, interesting, engaging conversations about actual stuff. I notice every time I get together with a particular friend that we end up talking about actual interesting, intellectually stimulating things, and it always stands out for me because I do so little of that with everyone else. Usually it's all what was on TV, and what who said to whom, and what I bought at the store, and what someone else had for dinner. And of course all the fannish stuff (I'll be posting about that too, later; see above re: coalescing) which, although frequently interesting, is not -- I'm not sure what word to put here, so I'll just say, not fulfilling, not what I'm looking for right now.
God, that sounds painfully pretentious, but whatever. You chose to read this of your own free will, so deal. ;)
I shall close this post with a link to the first post I posted upon returning from my trip last week, and a stern and pointed stare in the directions of
taraljc and
tiggrrl. O:)
