Argh! Why do so many people seem to be under the delusion that you can't edit a post you made in a community?? The procedure for editing a community post is EXACTLY the same as for editing a post in your own journal!!! I swear, the next time I see "oops, I messed up in that last post, oh well I can't go back and change it so I'll just repost the whole thing corrected" I'm going to injure someone.

There are a lot of people using LJ who don't know everything it can do. I'm one of them, but at least I try to figure out if I can do something before just assuming I can't (and the process for editing posts is pretty inuitive anyway).

yeah, it's not that I mind people not knowing, but they obviously haven't made an effort to find out, and that's what bugs me.

I've always used the 'edit entries' option to edit my journal, and it doesn't seem to work on communities. (If I'm wrong, tell me!)

Mind, I did stumble across mention of the 'edit' icon on the posts--last week--after over 6 months on LJ.

Well, of course: that only works on your personal journal.

I've always used the little pencil icon on the entry to edit my entries, though. It's more convenient for me.

Convenient or not, I just flat out didn't know it existed! The icons have a tendancy to look alike to me, so I've always just use the more-legible-to-me menu bar, instead of figuring out what the little pictures mean...

Ah. That makes sense.

Yeah, but even still, I bet you wouldn't post to a community saying "sorry, I can't edit that post so I'll just post it again." I bet you'd be smart/considerate enough to say something more like, "oops, does anyone know if there's a way I can edit that post?" Or maybe even read the FAQ. Rather than simply *assuming* that it can't be done.

Actually, I just left it alone and ignored it. Of course, it was a minor error--if it had been anything big, I'd have been begging for help.

Because you can't backdate a community post, and/or do some other fiddly little things. And because some of them may have the delusion that you've got to be logged in as the community to do so.

Idiots.
