...and because I've had some trouble lining up beta-readers for my soon-to-be finished Buffy/Angel/SV masterpiece, I've been thinking about starting a website listing specifically for crossover betas.

There are great beta-reader-listing sites out there for individual shows (e.g. the huge listing at the BTVS Writers' Guild, and the SV listing at [livejournal.com profile] taraljc's site), but I haven't found any for crossovers.

Of course, because I'm a geek, I've been pondering how I could do the listing in javascript and not have to maintain a database. It would have to keep track of all the fandoms each person knows, and cross-reference them based on what the user is searching on. I think it could be done with arrays! Or maybe I'm just insane. But hey, another thing to play with in my copious spare time. It keeps me off the streets.

Hi Joan. Do you still need a beta for your story? I'm an avid watcher of all three shows, and a bit of a whip-wielding beta, so if your story's not too huge, I'm up for it.

thanks!! I definitely do still need betaing -- it's not done yet, but hopefully will be by tonight *crosses fingers*. It shouldn't be terribly long. I gave up writing epics when I gave up Xena fandom. :)

A crossover beta site sounds cool to me - I'm in favor of pretty much anything which encourages more good crossovers. *g* I wonder if there's an existing allfandom crossover site you could hook into.

I've been pondering how I could do the listing in javascript

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeew! Javascript is eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeevil. And making it work cross-platform? *ironiclaugh* You'd be pretty much guaranteeing that people like me wouldn't or couldn't use the site.

But then I'm more of a database geek anyway, so I'm biased. *g*

Aww, javascript isn't evil! It's fun! It probably wouldn't work for such a thing anyway -- wouldn't stand up to the load, for one thing -- but I'd enjoy the challenge of trying to make it work. And then toss it out the window and set up a database. :)
