This weekend we went to Arisia, a scifi convention in Boston. I saw a lot of people I know, of course (including some geeky friends I hadn't seen in ages) and the kids even saw some people they know -- Isaac spotted his social studies teacher, which astonished him to no end. ;)
And almost every single friend I saw at the con, expressed amazement that it was my first time going to Arisia. I know, it seems crazy considering how much con-going I used to do, and how many of "my people" always go, and how close to home this con is. I have no real explanation for why I've never gone. It has always just been like "oh, that's this weekend already? meh...maybe next year." This year our decision to go was pretty last-minute, after a friend whom we've gone to two Wiscons in a row with called to say that her daughter really wanted Isaac to come to Arisia so they could run around together. And it all fell together, so we went.
I want to write more about Arisia and our weekend, but right now I feel too lousy. :( We had sorta planned on going back today for the final day of the con, but I woke up feeling super crappy with an awful sore throat and no voice, so I told the kids I'd rather stay home, and they didn't put up any argument. I think they were also somewhat craving a quiet day at home.
So I spent most of today in bed, with Grover-cat my constant companion and Ruthie checking in on me frequently. Midafternoon I had some crazy thoughts about going grocery shopping and cooking a real dinner, but as soon as I got up and made a cup of tea I knew I wouldn't have the energy for that. So the kids' dinner was scrambled eggs and noodles from a can. Whatever, at least they got fed. As for me, I had plain rice and more tea and a bottle of that super-gingery ginger beer stuff. And a long hot shower. I still feel like crap though. :( So I gotta go make the kids' lunches for tomorrow and then put myself to bed. Grumble. Stupid germs.
