Morning report
Aug. 20th, 2009 11:08 amI just can't figure out why kids are fine with some things and object to others. I know that Ruthie has it in her head that anything I do to her face is going to hurt ;) but all of a sudden as of yesterday she had decided that putting bacitracin on her dog-bite wounds was fun; and she even wanted to try dabbing on the peroxide with a q-tip on her own. (To recap, the peroxide is supposed to help the stitches finish dissolving.)
So we did some of that last night, and I was just relieved that it wasn't a huge fight, although it didn't seem to me that the peroxide was working, since I didn't see any "bubbling" that the doctor had mentioned.
But then this morning it looked like all the stitches were gone! So either they fell out, or dissolved, or who knows what, but in any case, yay.
So then it was on to the liquid bandage and steri-strips. The idea is that you put liquid bandage on the wound to hold it together and keep out bacteria, and then you stick the steri-strip (which is like a tiny little strip of band-aid) on top to protect it all and help support the skin so it can heal properly.
Well, without even having tried it, Ruthie was averse to the whole idea. I thought that the little bottle of liquid bandage -- which has a brush built in to the cap, like a bottle of nail polish -- would be interesting to her, but no. She wanted nothing to do with it. So my first attempt at applying it resulted in liquid bandage streaked across her other cheek, lol, but I did also get it onto one of the wounds. Then I think it probably stung (the package says "may temporarily sting upon application") which of course made her hate it even more. ;) I had to pin her down in order to stick on the teeny piece of steri-strip. And then I had to hold her down to repeat the whole process on the second wound. And then I decided to give up and let the third one go for the time being. Oy.
And we're supposed to keep doing this for four weeks! They said that each steri-strip should stay on for a few days and then fall off by itself, whereupon I should apply a new one. If it's every few days we might manage to do it, but if they start falling off every day, I just dunno, people. I can only hope that Ruthie will come around to cooperating like she did with the peroxide, otherwise it's gonna be a LONG frickin' four weeks.
In other Ruthie news, yesterday she wore underwear to daycare instead of a diaper, AND she stayed dry in them all day!!! Not a single accident!! I'm so excited. I can almost see the light at the end of the diaper-changing tunnel! :) She still asks for a diaper whenever she needs to poop, but hey, it's progress. Yay!
In unrelated news, I have decided that today's excursion is going to be a test run of the commute for the job that I'm really hoping to get. I'm going to take the bus from Ruthie's soon-to-be-new preschool, to the subway station, and then the subway to my hopefully-soon-to-be-new office, and see how long it takes. Of course, it won't be rush hour, so it's not a perfect test, but at least it'll give me an idea of what the situation looks like. Also, then I'll be right near the mall, where I've been wanting to go this week anyway. I'm going to be optimistic and buy some new work clothes. Or at least try some on. ;)
So anyway, I'm off to do that now. :) More later.
