weekend in reverse
Jul. 20th, 2009 11:12 amYesterday (Sunday) we were at the cottage with grandma. It was a lovely day. The weather was picture-perfect and we had a nice time. It was slightly marred in the afternoon/evening by Isaac getting a splinter in his finger, which is still there because he absolutely freaked out when we tried to poke it out. I sure hope this thing works its way out in the next day or so, because if I have to take him to the doctor, it could get really ugly. oy.
Ruthie once again spent most of the time naked, and also most of them time alternately pretending to be Kevin Youkilis (a Red Sox player) and Tiger Woods. We went for a walk and found a yard sale, and bought a few toys including a pair of froggy rain boots that are much too big for Ruthie. So she spent a while walking around buck naked except for those boots (which she would NOT take off) and claiming to be Youk. That was pretty hilarious. ;)
On Saturday we had brunch at mom's place with the family, including
sandykidd's mom who was visiting from Idaho. Then after a failed attempt at napping Ruthie, we set out for the cottage in two cars: me alone in mine, and mom in hers with the kids. Grandma's car is just so much cooler than ours, don'tcha know.
Friday evening, when Isaac and I picked up Ruthie from daycare, the local ArtBeat festival was just getting set up in the little park right next to the daycare. There was a free concert going on and a couple of stands selling food. I thought we'd go over and get some food, but there was nothing the kids would eat (one stand was BBQ, the other was Indian food). But then the kids spotted like a dozen of their various friends, so there was much running around and shrieking, which sorely tried my patience (lots of people, too difficult to keep track of two kids at once). So finally I decided to lure them away with the promise of ice cream. But then Isaac wanted one of his friends to come along, so I envisioned the parents getting mad at me ;) but instead they decided they'd all come. So it was me and my kids, Isaac's friend and his little sister and their parents. We walked over to the ice-cream place and got cones and hung out outside. The kids got ice cream ALL over themselves and had a lot of fun. Ruthie made some dogs very happy by going to say hi to them with sticky ice-creamy hands. ;)
Overall a pretty good weekend, if by the end of it I was dying for some quiet kid-free time. ;) Thankfully I'm getting that today! ;)
