Wow, we had a busy weekend! Finally the weather is warming up and it's really starting to feel like summer, YAY.

On Saturday we went to the playground in the morning; then in the afternoon our upstairs neighbor Brian hosted a party in our backyard in honor of his roommate Charles who recently won some kind of big chess tournament or something. There was much food -- including a stunningly impressive or impressively stunning chessboard cake -- and afterward everyone played bocce, which may be Isaac's new second-favorite sport after baseball (is bocce a sport?) and then I dumped the kids on mom for a little while so I could do a grocery run.

On Sunday we went to Fenway Park to see the Red Sox, who beat the Kansas City Royals 6-0. Josh Beckett threw only 94 pitches in a complete-game shutout for his 100th win of his career. And the weather was freaking gorgeous so it was a really fun game.

I was pretty nervous about taking Ruthie to the game, since it was right smack in the middle of naptime so it basically meant forgoing her nap. She was very excited about it all, but once we actually got there, you know, baseball is kinda boring when you're only three. Especially since we were in the nosebleed seats so the actual action was pretty far away.

She made it through about four innings before getting really antsy, whereupon I took her down to the concourse. We wandered around a little bit, then went into the "family" restroom where there were quiet benches and we could sit and nurse and I could watch the game on TV. Then a little more wandering, got her a soft pretzel, and we went back to our seats. She made it through a couple more innings, albeit squirming and wiggling all over the place (thank goodness the mom and kid in front of us were understanding) and then, much to my amazement, she actually conked out on grandma's lap. She slept through the last few innings even though there was a lot of action and LOUD crowd noise! After the game ended, I took Isaac to the red seat (see pix) and then bathroom, and then mom woke Ruthie up and met us.

Then mom and Isaac went to get Chinese food while Ruthie and I stopped off at Cambridge City Hall, where she likes to roll down the grassy hill, and she played with several very enthusiastic dogs, and then we went back to mom's house and ate the Chinese food, went home and crashed HARD. Whew!!

Ruthie enjoyed shelling peanuts for me and grandma to eat.

Me and my boy!

The obligatory family shot. Isaac is scowling because his favorite player, Jason Bay, is batting, and he doesn't want to take time out from watching Jay-Bay to get his picture taken. But he didn't say anything at the time! I only know that because he told me this morning when I showed him the picture. heh.

Isaac with the Red Seat, which marks the spot of Ted Williams's famous 502-foot home run, the longest homer ever hit in Fenway.

Isaac was very pleased to push his sister around, nyuk nyuk. ;)

who recently won some kind of big chess tournament or something.

...are you kidding around or did you really not know? Charles, after more than 15 years of work, made it into the top 100 chess players in the entire United States.

Yeah well, what do I know about chess? Maybe you have to win tournaments to move up in the rankings. I dunno.

Well yeah, you do. But the celebration was for breaking the top 100, which is a helluva hard feat.
