poor baby :(
Nov. 27th, 2006 10:10 pmTonight I left the kids with my mom for a couple of hours while I went to chorus rehearsal. (only 2 weeks until our Messiah concert!) Ruthie didn't nurse much before I left and previously had been at mom's place for a couple hours already, so she went quite a while without much nursing or sleeping. By the time mom brought them to the rehearsal Ruthie was a basket case, and sobbed the whole way home. I put on the TV for Isaac and nursed her and she fell right asleep and didn't even twitch when I put her down...but woke up screaming a few minutes later. sigh.
I think something is bothering her -- I mean aside from the cold that she and I have been fighting for like 6 weeks now. Maybe teething. Anyway, I put her and Isaac into pajamas and we went into the bathroom to brush his teeth, and for some reason it suddenly struck me as a good idea to give Ruthie some ibuprofen (while she was crying in the sling/wrap, where I had put her while I got Isaac into pajamas because she was so upset that I didn't think she'd stand for being put down).
Unfortunately the plunger on the medicine syringe was sticky, so instead of squirting it slowly into her mouth in small portions, it all squirted at once, and she choked on it a little, then swallowed it...then barfed it all back up again along with a goodly portion of the breastmilk she had just taken in. All over herself and me. Siiiiigh.
I don't think it's really any big deal, in terms of vomiting. I mean, I don't think she vomited because she has a stomach bug or anything. I think it was just that she was already upset and the medicine went down wrong and triggered her barf reflex. So I felt like the meanest mama ever :( and had to rush through the rest of Isaac's bed prep (including changing the bandaid on his blister...did I mention he chose Dora bandaids?) and get him to bed. Then I changed Ruthie's pajamas, which were totally soaked, and took off my soaked shirt, and nursed her some more and she fell asleep again and is now sacked out on my lap as I type this.
Poor baby!
Wish her luck feeling better. I'm really hoping that it's just a bit of overtiredness and maybe some teething and the tail end (PLEASE GOD LET IT BE THE TAIL END) of this cold.
And tomorrow I'm taking her to participate in the brain research study at Children's Hospital, so she really needs to be rested in order to be smart. :) So, wish us luck getting a good night's sleep.
Oh, and in completely unrelated news, congratulations to
xochiquetzl and
metafrantic for hitting their NaNoWriMo targets. :)
