The following is a line from Isaac's favorite choo-choo-train book:
Metal wheels whirl as they whizz along the track. They shimmer and they swish with a slick click-clack.
Just TRY to say that quickly and accurately without tripping over your own tongue. Try it. I dare you.

Stupid children's-book writers. Why do you hate me?

In other news, Isaac totally blew my mind the other morning. I came into the living room and he had lined up several of his toy vehicles side-by-side. In front of each one he had placed a block. I said, "whatcha doin'?" and he told me that "they have snow plows on them." *blink* *blink* O.O

Wow! That was quite a cognitive leap. He hasn't really demonstrated any kind of spontaneous representative play like that before, at least not at home! I was truly dumbstruck. It was awesome. My child is a genius! :D <3

It looks like it's easier to half-sing than to just read.

But then, I have tongue-twisting surveys to contend with at work some of the time.

Hooray for snow plows!

I do read it in a sing-songy sort of voice, which is sort of obligatory since the entire book (and the other two in the series, about diggers and fire trucks) is written in this kind of rhyming patter. Iambic quadrameter maybe? Doesn't seem to make it any less tongue-twisty though.

When a train meets a valley or a river or a ridge, the coaches rumble over on a big strong bridge.

This train's for passengers, it's ready at the station. All aboard and wave goodbye, we're going on vacation!

I LOVE THAT BOOK. OK, I may not have all the words right, but Sophie loved it. I wish Eric loved it as much. We also have Flashing Fire Engines.

I guess work has permanently changed me in a good way! (I tried reading it aloud a few times, and it flowed clickity-clack.)

LOL! You still have it memorized. I bet I will in 3 years too.

Yeah, we also have Flashing Fire Engines and Dazzling Diggers, which is much worse. (Diggers are noisy, strong, and big! Diggers can carry and push and dig! AUGH!)

Just lately I've started changing the words just to crack Isaac up. "If a train meets a river or a valley or a ridge, the coaches rumble over on a big strong banana." Then he gives me a frown and goes "Noooo!" LOL :)

I can do it. It sounds like a really funky rhythm poem...think Dead Poets Society.

I still have most of Goodnight Moon memorized. And Sandra Boynton's Going to Bed Book. Which is very, very, very sad. Kidlet just turned eight, so I don't like to think how long it's been since we read those books.

it's got a beat to it. I rather like it actually. Once you get into the rhythm it shouldn't be too hard to say. I think. Maybe. LOL
