Oops. As usual I'm behind on updates.
Isaac had his birthday trip to Maine with his grandma. Much fun was had although they were both totally exhausted by the time they got home. Ruthie and I had a pretty good time while they were gone too. We went to some playgrounds, stopped off briefly at the mall where I got her a pair of flip-flops (2 for $5 at Old Navy) which she absolutely LOVES and has been wearing nonstop; we also went to the Children's Museum and uh, a bunch of other stuff that I forget. ;) It was mostly just weird at bedtime that one night. When I told Ruthie it was time to get ready for bed, she said, "But we need Isaac!" Heh.
I'm slowly getting used to Isaac's gap-toothed look and the slight lisp that he has developed since losing his tooth. And now the tooth next to the hole is loose too. Man, it's going to be hard for him to eat corn on the cob pretty soon ;)
Isaac also had his 6-year-old checkup last week and it was uneventful. It turns out that he doesn't need any more shots for a while and didn't need any blood tests either, so we were both happy about that. ;) He weighs an even 50 pounds and is just barely about half an inch shy of four feet tall. I also learned some new things about the care and feeding of the uncircumcised penis, but that's TMI ;)
The other day Ruthie's daycare gave me a packet of papers to fill out for the fall (their "school year" ostensibly beginning in the fall even though they're open year-round). It was all the medical paperwork and registration info, just to get it updated for all the kids in the center. But included in the packet was a chart showing the tuition increases that are going into effect beginning Sept 1st. Ruthie's tuition is currently $376 per week (no, that is not a typo - PER WEEK) and is going up to $399. OMG.
So that prompted me to call my nephew Bastian's preschool (I think I posted here that I had visited it recently?) and ask about the status of their waitlist. And the woman said that Ruthie can start there on August 26th! Their tuition is $200/week so it is truly cutting the cost in HALF. I am way excited about that. ;)
I'm a little nervous about the transition though, especially since Ruthie still has some trouble at dropoff time even now having been at the same center for two years (and in the same room for uh, I forget exactly but at least nine months, maybe a year). She generally clings to me and says that she's "shy" and has to be passed directly into the arms of a teacher -- preferably her favorite one -- and sometimes even still she's fussy while I leave. She's always fine as soon as I'm gone, though. I know she'll be fine at the new place, eventually. I hope it won't take too long to adjust.
I'm also a little nervous about telling her current center that she's leaving. I don't know why, because frankly I can't stand that place (except for the one teacher we love, whose phone numbers I already made sure to get). But I just don't look forward to that awkward conversation. I had gotten myself all psyched up for it this morning, but then neither the director nor assistant director was in yet. Sigh. I guess I could call and do it over the phone, though I'd really prefer to do it in person. I dunno.
