sick baby :(
Jan. 22nd, 2007 06:23 pmPoor Ruthie! On Saturday she burned her hand, and now she's ill. I took her to the doctor this morning & she was diagnosed with bronchiolitis which is probably RSV. Respiratory Somethingorother Virus is pretty common in babies and can be quite serious (adults and older kids get it too but it just presents as a mild cold). It basically causes breathing problems due to congestion and inflammation in the lungs.
Without going into detail because I'm currently holding Ruthie and typing one-handed, let me just say it has been a VERY tough couple of days. Ruthie is an extremely miserable baby. :( She's feverish and lethargic, with an occasional wet cough. All she really wants to do all day long is sit in my lap making this really sad moaning/whining/whimpering sound. I myself have barely slept or eaten and haven't gotten much of anything done because she cries piteously if I put her down. And she's mostly refusing to nurse :( which not only renders me mostly powerless to help with her discomfort, but also greatly increases MY discomfort. I'm reduced to pumping one breast at a time while holding her in the other arm. sigh.
Oh, and there's some ever so delightful diarrhea as well. Yippee.
anyway, now she's on an inhaler of albuterol 3x/day, which hopefully will help.
Here's hoping tonight goes better than last night did, 'cause it sure as hell can't go much worse.
On the plus side, at least now I don't have to worry about her breaking open the blisters on her burned hand while crawling, because she doesn't want to crawl!
