insomnia

For some bizarre and irritating reason lately I've been having insomnia, waking up repeatedly during the night. When a person is as tired and has as few opportunities for sleep as I do, this is not cool. I should be sleeping until *Isaac* wakes me up, not my own body deciding I need to be up in the middle of the night! Grump.

A few weeks ago I made a vow not to post any more about Isaac's/my sleep issues on a particular parenting email list, because the discussions it sparked were always more annoying/flameworthy than helpful. When I made that vow, [livejournal.com profile] ww1614 said I should post about the sleep stuff on LJ instead. I said that I would, and I kept meaning to, but I never got around to it because a) I'm always busy and b) the sleep situation was changing so often, as soon as I started to see a pattern it would change. This is hard to deal with.

Some blathering about our sleep issues )

Anyway, we soldier on, I guess.

In other news, you might enjoy this picture of Isaac telling me to shush:

hee hee, all else aside, he makes me laugh every day. <3

1. I have an Old Navy gift card with something like $35 on it. I got it because a friend gave Isaac an Old Navy snowsuit but it was a little small, plus we already have two snowsuits from hand-me-downs, so I returned it and got the gift card. I can use it at an Old Navy store or online. The problem is, the online store is all spring/summery stuff now. [Insert rant about how ridiculous it is that they start selling summer clothes in January, here.] What Isaac really needs right now is sweaters. He has a good number of light sweaters but he needs some heavier ones for days like, oh, say, today? When it's thirteen degrees outside. He could also use another pair of shoes, but I'm not going to buy those online. Anyway, so I can't decide what to do with the Old Navy card. I could use it to stock up on socks (we can always use more socks) and other stock-uppy things, or I could save it till spring and buy some springy/summery stuff then (and complain that they have all their fall inventory out). Or I could go to the actual store, I guess, and see if they have any winter remainder stuff left; but who has time to go to actual stores??

2. I also have a $25 webcertificate (basically a credit-card number with $25 on it) that I got from one of the online survey places. I can't decide whether to spend it on sensible stuff, like bills, or to buy something semi-useful for myself like a sweater (oh yeah, did I mention that I also need sweaters?), or to buy something totally frivolous for myself. I feel so poor these days that buying something frivolous for myself just doesn't seem right. Hmm, maybe I'll use it to buy myself a cookbook of some sort. One of my major cost-cutting goals for the near-term is to learn how to actually cook, to be able to make large batches of stuff that I can have around, and take to work for lunch. Is there a "cooking economically for dummies"?
