Wow, has today ever been a stressful day at work. It's bad enough that it's my last day before a 2-week vacation (which news totally freaked out our project manager when he found out a couple days ago ... this guy SERIOUSLY needs valium), but we're also in a big scramble to get our Version 1.0 product in shape for its actual release. The pressure's on because sales is already selling the puppy, and if you've ever worked at a software company you know that those last few days/weeks are a frantic scramble where some new tiny problem is found every five minutes, prompting a half-hour meeting on whether it should be fixed or documented. So my timing is pretty bad with this vacation, because it's almost certain that there'll be some stuff changed in the next two weeks. But the aforementioned project manager is in charge of making those changes, and I showed him everything, and I think he'll be fine (although I daresay he disagrees, see above re: valium).

And yet, in a weird way it's been fun because a) I work best under pressure, b) it's a sort of subtle ego-stroke, c) it's nice to be able to say "no, you canNOT 'get it to me in a couple hours,' it needs to be done NOW" and be thought of as forceful rather than bitchy ;), and d) the more niggly the changes become, the more it becomes clear that I've written this entire manual, from scratch, by myself*, and it's just about done, and it rocks. :)

*well, except for the introductory paragraphs that marketing provided.

Of course, I still have that nagging feeling that I forgot some big important change I was supposed to make ... but you know what, too bad. It'll have to be lived with. I recite the classic software-engineer refrain: "I'll fix it in version 1.1." Hee!

Aaaaand, I think that's it! It's 6:30, time to save the puppy one last time, generate the PDF version, check it in to source control, send out a goodbye email and haul ass. Yay!
